The Victorian Government has decided to sell public housing land to private developers in North Melbourne.
Recent reporting in The Age found that the Government’s plan lacks transparency, diminishes public wealth, and actually reduces the number of public housing places. Meanwhile, the developers that will carry out the redevelopment are set to make millions.
A Parliamentary Inquiry released its report in June. It made nearly 30 recommendations aimed at overcoming these inadequacies. It also criticised the consultation process and queried the evidence justifying the Government’s plan.
Join us at a public meeting to hear more about this plan in detail and about how we can work together to get better outcomes for public housing tenants.
Speakers: TBC.
